or call: +372 655 9077Marine Urea, also known as AUS-40, is a 40% urea solution specifically developed for marine SCR catalysts. Unlike AUS-32 (AdBlue) used in road transport, AUS-40 has a higher concentration because large marine engines produce more NOx emissions that require a stronger reagent. The solution is colorless with a mild scent, non-toxic, and non-flammable.
The SCR system injects AUS-40 into the exhaust stream, where high temperature breaks the solution down into ammonia. The ammonia reacts with the toxic nitrogen oxide (NOx) and converts it into harmless compounds: nitrogen (N₂) and water vapor (H₂O). Result: up to 80% less NOx emissions.
40% is the concentration chosen by SCR system manufacturers as optimal, providing effective NOx reduction over longer intervals between port deliveries.
Using low-quality AUS-40 causes impurities to build up in the SCR catalyst, reducing system efficiency. At the next port call, the vessel undergoes NOx emission inspection. Non-compliance results in fines, delays, and a port departure ban. Only use an ISO 18611 certified supplier.
